Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Intern

I shadowed an oral and maxillofacial surgeon across clinic and OR days at multiple Atlanta offices: about 35 patients per clinic day, plus 2 OR days a week. I sat in on consults, pre-op and post-op visits, and surgery.

• I saw treatment planning with orthodontists on jaw cases and periodontists on gum and implant cases.
• I followed the care of medically complex patients, including those on blood thinners, with heart conditions, or with special needs.
• I practiced suturing.

Dental Intern

I observed more than 55 significant procedures, including 35+ crowns and fillings and 25 extractions, and worked chairside to keep the day moving.

• I sterilized and packaged instruments to OSHA and office protocol, and prepared instruments and treatment rooms between patients.
• I learned to take panoramic X-rays, and saw CBCT imaging used to plan implants.
• I followed endodontic cases from pulp removal through obturation and the final restoration.

I logged 40 service and shadowing hours on a service-learning trip, shadowing dental professionals in mobile clinics that serve underserved communities.
